
Creative Use of Newspaper Contest
Philadelphia Newspapers has launched its first ever Creative Use of Newspaper Contest in conjunction with the debut of the MediaLab, a new resource dedicated to helping you utilize our publications in unique, new ways.. The MediaLab represents a breakthrough in the creative use of the newspaper medium by providing a collaborative process with advertisers, ad agencies and our own ad reps to explore, test and discover. We invite you to see our newspapers as your testing ground for new ideas and executions that address ever-changing marketing challenges and opportunities. The Creative Use of Newspaper Contest is launched with this spirit of creative adventure and determination to bring out the very best that newspapers have to offer.
Eligibility
All submissions can be from recognized advertising agencies and in-house marketing/creative teams. Entries can be submitted as pdfs or jpgs or tifs delivered to 400 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19130 on a disk. All entries must be accompanied by a summary with description of entry and contact details. All entries must represent creative use of the newspaper medium in The Philadelphia Inquirer and/or Philadelphia Daily News. Entries need not have been previously published to qualify. Agencies may send multiple submissions and can win more than one award.
Entry
There is no entry fee. All entries must be submitted to the MediaLab no later than April 30th, 2007. All entries become the property of Philadelphia Newspapers (PN). Entries should be submitted on disk and delivered to PN 400 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19130 attn: MediaLab Contest. Be sure to include the following information:
• Name of Agency and Advertiser
• Agency mailing address
• Agency email address
• Name of person(s) submitting
• Submission Caption or Title
• Summary description of entry
Summary
A written summary is critical to the judging of your PN MediaLab entry. Your input will help judges understand your vision and therefore arrive at accurate decisions. In your summary, be sure to address both the position and placement of your newspaper ad or ads as well as your overall objective, target demographic and or how your ad fits in a broader marketing strategy / campaign. Your entry will be judged based on effective use of space and creativity of concept and design. Please note that the entry summary will appear exactly as submitted should your entry be published by PN. Please limit your summary to no more than 500 words.

Material should contain page-ready, high resolution pdfs, 300 DPI.
Judging Criteria
An independent panel of top creative talent will be brought in to jury the entries. The judges will look for creative use of space, the ability to reproduce in color and or black and white, and non traditional strategy and execution of concept. The decision is final. Winners will be notified at an award banquet held in May 2007. No winner information will be given in advance of award banquet. Email address supplied with summary will be used to notify award winners.
Recognition
All agencies with eligible submissions will be invited to the awards banquet for the announcement of the winners. The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News will publish the names and summaries of award winners. The first, second and third place award winners as well as honorable mentions will have their ads published in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and online on our Advertising Extranet.
Prize Money
First place award: $5,000.00. Second place award: $3,000.00. Third place award: $2,000.00. All prizes include a trophy suitable for displaying. Taxes are solely the responsibility of the winner(s). Void where prohibited by law. By entering, you allow the MediaLab to use your name and address for promotional purposes, and winners grant the MediaLab the right to use their names and/or likenesses for promotional purposes without further compensation. Winners may be required to sign a statement of eligibility and a liability release prior to receiving their prizes. Entrants agree that the Philadelphia Newspapers, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, any participating partners or sponsors and agents are not liable for, and will be held harmless against, any and all claims for injury, loss or damage of any kind resulting directly or indirectly from participation in this contest or from acceptance or use of any prize.
