Now that we've all paused and taken a moment to remember the 2,800-plus innocents who died on Sept. 11, 2001, it's time to get back to to the best way to honor their memory: Answering the many unanswered questions from that day. The more we learn about what really went down on 9/11, the more likely we can prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
Why are we talking about this on Campaign Extra!? Is it a campaign issue for Bush and Kerry? It should be.
Yes, it’s already been the subject of two major investigations and thousands of news reports. And so some of the lingering questions have been finally answered. Too many still have not. Here’s our third anniversary update: What’s known, and what isn’t.
KNOWN: President Bush’s explanation for why he remained in a Sarasota classroom for at least seven minutes, and possibly longer, reading “The Pet Goat” instead of communicating with the White House and Pentagon. “The president felt he should project strength and calm until he could better understand what was happening,” the independent 9/11 Commission found.
UNKNOWN: Why Bush was possibly the only person in America not to ask a question, utter a comment, or show any emotion when he was told that the nation was under attack.
KNOWN: The 9/11 Commission presented compelling evidence that — contrary to the popular theories that passengers seized the cockpit of Flight 93 or the military shot it down -- the hijackers crashed the United jet in Pennsylvania on purpose.
UNKNOWN: The complete transcript of Flight 93’s cockpit voice recorder and the data that’s on the plane’s flight data recorder -- the two “black boxes” recovered in the week following 9/11. Until the government releases these, some people will suspect a cover-up — and rightfully so.
KNOWN: That the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency failed to immediately test the air in lower Manhattan for dangerous toxins such as concrete dust and glass fibers. And when it found high levels of these on Sept. 27, 2001, the federal agency didn’t warn anybody.
UNKNOWN: The long-term health consequences of those bad decisions. A report by the Sierra Club cites dozens of studies that show hundreds of resident and recovery workers have already been sickened.
UNKNOWN: How critical a role that Pakistan’s notorious intelligence service, the ISI, played in aiding al-Qaeda and possibly funding the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 Commission chose to ignore strong evidence of ties between Pakistani officials — including Gen. Hamid Gul, former ISI director — and Osama bin Laden and other terrorists.
KNOWN: The 9/11 Commission concluded that even if the orders had been clearly given, fighter jets would not have been able to shoot down Flight 93 had it reached Washington. It found clear orders weren’t issued until 10:31 — some 25 to 28 minutes after the plane already crashed.
UNKNOWN: Where the hell Donald Rumsfeld was and just what he was doing on the morning of the attacks. The head of the National Military Command Center, the Pentagon nerve center, told the commission it couldn’t find the defense secretary for 30 minutes — although Rumsfeld did find time later in the day to concoct a scheme to attack Iraq.
UNKNOWN: Why the FBI and Bush administration blocked efforts by congressional investigators to pursue leads on two Saudis living in the San Diego area — and a retired professor who was also an FBI informant — who had extensive contacts with two Sept. 11 hijackers? That charge is made in a new book by Florida Sen. Bob Graham.
KNOWN: That the American people are much more skeptical about the official account of 9/11 than either the government or most of the media is willing to admit. A new poll by highly respected Zogby International found 49 percent of New York City resident and 41 percent of New York State residents believe some American leaders "knew in advance that attacks were planned on or around September 11, 2001, and that they consciously failed to act."
I certainly appears to be some sort of conspiracy at work. I have also heard that FDR knew of the pending attack on Pearl Harbor, but chose to ignore it. The theory is, he felt an attack would more thoroughly galvanize the American people for war rather than a thwarted one.

The reason people still support bush is because they still trust television and radio and churches. All these outlets of disinformation are well paid for by the government to spread government propaganda. Propaganda such as a clear link as to who the hell did 911. There is none. It was a massive leap of faith to attack afghanistan and we have the pipeline through afghanistan now. Hmmm. Maybe there was a different reason for afghanistan besides 911??
Iraq is another classic govt bs story. We ALL know that, some people think it is pertinent others think killing brown people is good christianity at work. I am against the electoral system and I believe it is time for it to be scrapped entirely. He’s my take on the economy. I know it long, but bear with me.
The stock market reached its zenith on March 3, 2000 - my birthday. This was in the Clinton twilight. Thereafter it headed south and did not really turn the corner until March 2003.
In that interval, the market lost $10 trillion dollars in wealth. That’s about one year of GDP for the US. So quickly did the economic expansion of the 90’s come to a halt that the President of Cisco Systems said in the month from November 2000 to December 2000, their sales growth went from 25 percent per annum to flat or slightly shrinking.
This scenario was repeated all over the economy. Manufacturing had taken its hit months earlier.
Then 9-11 struck. I’ve read the 9-11 cost to the economy of this was about $3 trillion. That combines to be a $13 trillion punch to a $10 trillion a year economy. Economies are highly damped systems and change direction slowly. Once everyone is hunkered down, it takes while before businesses and consumers decide that maybe the sky is not going to fall after all and then start to look upon the world more brightly. It also takes time to replenish the $13 trillion dollar loss.
I think Bush’s tax cuts and Greenspan’s aggressive interest rate cuts and vigorous pumping of the money supply have started the economy on the right course. The jobs numbers are looking better all the time. I think they would have been even better than they are, but the bump in oil prices this spring slowed things a bit. The back-to-back hurricanes will likely degrade performance slightly.
At this point, the unemployment rate is lower than it was when Clinton was up for re-election. I think the economy is now like a freight train building steam and speed. For the next two years, barring some unforeseen event, the economy will boom brilliantly regardless of who the president is.
Kerry is in the unenviable position of having to pray for bad things to happen so Bush will look bad and people will turn to Kerry. I’m glad I’m not in his shoes.

The cause of the Iraqi war goes far beyond 9/11 and all those who assume otherwise are being irrational and pig headed. For years Saddam's dictatorship has done nothing but malitously attacked his own people and the world alike. A mass murderer through geneside and much more.
I may not know political aspects, but I sure as hell pay attention. 10 years ago both America and Britain had the perfect opportunity to remove Saddam from power, all through a hitman, which to my knowledge froze and fled. If the government had of dealt with this situation all those years ago, then I would agree and say there was no need for the war on Iraq. But we didn't, therefore it was a long time coming, and serverely overdue.
It was unneccesary to let it get so out of control, many state that its because of oil, or power, or because America want to rule the world. But if that is the case then the same goes for the U.K. We are in bed with the U.S persay, and if America want world power then we do to, it's only fair to assume that.
The U.K is as much to blame for the mass life loss in Iraq as America are, we both went in there and we both faught side by side. To force the blame souly on America is immoral and irrisponsible in itself.
Many of you might think I have no idea what the hell I am talking about, but I can assure you all I am not the only one to think this, but probably the only one who has the guts to say something about it.
Yes, Britain and America have gotten in way over their heads and need to deal with all this anguish before the two nations destroy both govermental constitutions.
Personally I think Saddam got what was coming to him, yes it is unfortunate on the loss of the unneccesary civilian and military life, but truthfully how far was the world willing to let that evil and malicious murderer go before it did anything.
They were right to cease Iraq, they were right to remove Saddam from power, someone had too. I am not condoning the events that brought his demise about, but I am condoning our two counties standing together to rid the world of a sadistic murderer.
I believe that all of you should at least in part agree with everything I have said here. Even if you feel that my assumptions and views are not entirely accurate.
That being said, I as a bystander, watched as our two countries stood side by side, and finally did something the rest of the world were to coward to admit was right. I'm sorry if you think of me as wrong, but its what I have witnessed and what I believe to be truth.

4)He and his entire executive administration lied to the American people and more importantly the United States Congress when he and his entire administration constantly and consistantly tied Saddam Hussien to the horrific events of September 11th,2001, knowing then that he and his people were lying to the American people
5)He gave the orders to reduce manpower and supplies from the real war on terrorism in Afghanistan to Iraq
6)He gave the orders to his henchman John Ashcroft, to start immediately the corrosion of our Constitution by having him and his legal staff prepare THE PATRIOT ACT, which by the way cannot be looked on as anything other than UNCONSTITUTIONAL
7)He is responsible for the actions of his man Donald Rumsfeld, through which the Geneva Conventions were intentionally obfuscated, and just plain ignored, potentially hanging our military out to dry if any of our people were to be captured. Rumsfeld is also responsible for the total incompotance of managing our men and women in the military, such as lack of much needed armourment and supplies in there respective war zones
8)Mr.Bush refused to listen to his military people when they told him that a much larger force would be needed to control Iraq during and after the invasion
9)Mr. Bush continues to mislead and just plain lie to the American people by not informing America of just how dire the situation actually is and continues to bein Iraq.
These are just a few of the wrongs perpetrated by this Administration and I fear that the LEMMINGS(OVER ZEALOUS WEAK MINDED RELIGEOUS FANATICS)will continue to follow this MEGALOMANIAC WITH A NAPOLEONIC COMPLEX right over the cliff. On a side note I watched the report on TV where Mr. Bush said approximately 20years ago, after having walked out of a church in Texas that he had spoken to god and he firmly believed that god wanted him to be president of the United States. I will confess that although being a christian in mind and spirit, I am probably not as close to my god as I would like, but the night I saw that interview with King George telling the world that somehow he had gotten the calling from God to become president,I prayed longer, harder, and stronger to my God than I have ever done before in my entire life for the answers to the questions Mr. Bush raised in my mind with that interview. The next morning I recieved my answers. Firstly my god informed me that Mr. bush must be praising false Gods because, as it was put to me by a much higher power, God does not choose any mortals to stand above another. The second thing I thought of was, how many people are in prisons at this very minute who said that God told them to do what they had done to end up in prison.
Our very existance depends on this maniacal idiot and his entire administration from overthrowing our great country for another four years.
