Election 2004

Red Sox Millionaires for Bush

The Bush-Cheney campaign, in its latest attempt to change the topic, is sending out an email to journalists with the subject heading: "In Case You Missed It: Red Sox Hero Endorses President Bush."

The hero in question is pitcher Curt Schilling, who threw in a political plug when talking to Charles Gibson of "Good Morning America": "And make sure you tell everybody to vote, and vote Bush next week."

We're all thrilled by the Red Sox win, and marvelled at Schilling's ability to pitch with pain. But it should be noted that on top of his $12 million salary this season, the ex-Phillie (sigh) guaranteed himself an additional $15 million down the road with the World Series win.

Hello? Of course Schilling wants Bush, who enacted the biggest tax cut for multi-millionaires in American history! Thanks for reminding us, Bush-Cheney campaign. Schilling supports the guy who'll keep his taxes low, while his working-class fans get stuck with the bill for Iraq.

It's a good thing we can admire athletes solely for what they do on the playing field.

I get your point about Shilling's economic situation, and can't agree more. But let's also not forget that he's a born-again Christian, and for that reason alone would *probably* support Bush even if he were poor.

Wish he had a website so we could comment, "Curt, we love ya, but stick to winning in baseball and cashing your huge checks".

Honetly, God forbid one celebrity actually likes Bush. The rich and famous line up for Kerry. Kerry says he won't raise taxes for the middle class but he never he says that he will lower them. Kerry says that he will tax the rich which includes himself and his wife. He never mentions anywhere that he will get rid of the tax lopholes that he and his wife have benefited from. Kerry may raise taxes for the rich but he certainly ins't going to pay his share!

As much as I love Schilling for being, apparently, a good dude, smart, thoughful and accessible, he's a complete self-serving loudmouth who has always been hated by his teammates off the field as much as he's loved on the mound. I wasn't a huge fan of the Phils' 1993 Macho Row, but I can say that they certainly didn't like Curt for his arrogance and condescenion.

Not only did he tell viewers (I think on GMA?) to vote for Bush, but he gave an interview last night to ESPN where he mocked the Phillies (or their local critics).

His team just won the World Series and the "tortured" sports town of Boston just grabbed its golden ring, and yet still someone has to drag Philly's name in the mud.

Those sad Boston fans, who have been beaten down by the Yankees for so long, could have cried their lame tears in their Tom Brady jerseys since the Pats have won two of the last two SuperBowls.

But the piling on of Philly and its fans never goes out of style.

Every actor and musician in the world shares their views on politics, like we value their opinion because they're famous. Why are you so shocked that Schilling is doing it? Or are you just unhappy that he's voting Republican??

Thank God there are famous athletes like Curt Shilling who are not afraid to speak out against the liberal madness that will ultimately be the demise of our nation.
Let's see, who would I rather have in my corner - people like American Curt Shilling or Anti-American Michael Moore?
Keep speaking Curt...for God and for Bush...

I don’t know why I even bother to read the political issues covered by this newspaper, as always, one-side of the spectrum. So what that Curt Shilling said to vote for Bush? Springsteen, Vedder, R.E.M? They all had a concert that basically was an anti-George Bush Woodstock. Millionaires for Bush? Check Kerry’s “supporters” first.

> JOHN KERRY on the the explosive issue is again attacking out military, just like he did in 1971.

Exactly. Did you hear what that bastard said this morning? "The actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Didn't they search carefully enough?"

Man, that makes my blood boil. How can he live with himself after blaming our servicemen like that? What an America-hater!

Oh, that's right - this wasn't John Kerry, but Rudy Giuliani this morning.

Posted by: Bill at October 28, 2004 02:16 PM

Earlier, on NBC´s "Today" show, Giuliani suggested that troops, not Bush, were to blame for the missing explosives. In Brewer, he said the "ultimate responsibility" in Iraq rests with the president but suggested it was unfair to lay all the blame on him.

"It´s almost as if he gave the explosives away, that he was there," Giuliani said.

forgot to mention the rest of the story......
Giuliani said 400,000 tons of explosives were destroyed by U.S. troops in Iraq. He said Kerry had chosen to focus on 380 tons, even though it´s not clear what happened to them.

"John Kerry will stop at nothing... The worst and most irresponsible charges he´ll jump on because he wants to be president so badly," he said.

The vast majority of people for Bush have no real idea why they would vote for him. Try to be honest and answer these quick questions:

If Clinton had been President on 9/11 (and the same thing happened) you would:
A) say he was a great leader and vote for him
B) say it was his fault and chalk it up with all the other things you hate about him

If Clinton got us into a war that was costing billions of dollars, you would
A) say he was a great leader and vote for him
B) say that this was just another sign that he wasn't fit to lead

If Clinton said that he really wasn't all that concerned with Osama Bin Laden (as Bush did during a taped event), you would
A) say he was a great leader and vote for him
B) say he was letting the terrorists get away and wasn't fit to lead

If Curt Schilling liked Bill Clinton and John Kerry, you would say,
A) what a great guy
B) what an evil disgusting America-hater

Extra Credit Question
Name the person who is travelling from one end of this country to the other to get young Americans (of ALL political stripes) to register and vote.

Republican Answer: Some evil anti-American nut who hates all Americans and the very Constitution we live by.

Real American Answer: someone who obviously cares that every American citizen use the privilege of voting granted by the U.S. Constitution so we don't have to have the Supreme Court decide our election for us. (And that includes all you Anti-American Republicans)

Posted by: capt camo at October 28, 2004 03:32 PM

Extra Extra credit question: When was the last time Kate got laid?

A)last month
B)last year
C) never

If you think Kerry will be affected by raising the taxes on the rich than you are mistaken. He and his wife do not make their money on their salaries! They make it on trusts and estates! He wants to lower estate taxes! Thereofore if the rich pay, he won't be one of them! Once again do as I say not as I do! I don't want someone like that as President! I am glad Curt stepped up! I personally would support who ever was in office at the time. But I would not support a President that stood by and made excuse on why he did nothing in return (Clinton- USS Cole 2000).

I still believe that we should spare no expense when fighting terrorism. Can you put a dollar amount on the people that were killed during 911? I guess I don’t see everything in
dollars and cents.

Kate,
You obviously do not know the facts on may of the issues. You are a typical youth swayed by the media's view. Do yourself a favor and look into the facts of things before beleiving everything you read. Your questions don't really make any sense to me. John Kerry is running for President and not Bill Clinton. This is 2004 and not 1992. Answer what someone said above and name 1 thing Kerry has done. Scaring people into voting doesnt really fit the bill. I want you to name a law Kerry has written as Senator that benefits you.

Posted by: repoman at October 28, 2004 03:52 PM

Repo, you really do not understand the issues my friend read Kerry's plan for America and figure out how to pay for all he wants withou raising middle classes taxes? According to the 2002 IRS report there is not enough people in the bracket to cover the expense. Also he says that he will not raise taxes on the middle class, however he does not say he will lower them. Also his plan does not eliminate the loopholes that he and his wife use. I will give you that he is a smart guy but if you read his plan he is going to out smart us all in the end! Not enough to pay for his programs and higher taxes on the rich except himself.

AP:

"When the Bay of Pigs went sour, John Kennedy had the courage to look America in the eye and say, `I take responsibility, it's my fault," Kerry said, referring to a bungled invasion of Cuba in 1961. "John Kennedy knew how to take responsibility for the mistakes he made and Mr. President, it's long since time for you to start taking responsibility for the mistakes you made."

"You know, mistakes like reminding the Cuban-American community of why they hate the Democratic Party, just five days before an election in which I have staked almost everything on winning in Florida. Mistakes like comparing the popular successful overthrow of Saddam Hussein to a failed coup attempt in Cuba more than forty years ago. Mistakes like that."

But the media did not make a big deal out of this. You are spewing neocon rhetoric. I would agree this statement but Bush's tax cut is accomplished with an increase in the federal budget deficit. He printed the money you got back. This has devalued our currency. Tax cuts without spending cuts are not tax cuts at all. You have given back the tax cut Bush gave you by paying inflated prices for gas, groceries, and real estate. You are being a chump. Here is what a real conservative think about your boy:

I get so angry at all the scare tactics and lies that John Kerry and the Democrats expound every day. It makes me sick that they prey on the weak minded who base their decisions on quick sound bites by the LIBERAL media and celebrity bravado. I wish people would research the facts for themselves and see that Kerry is a spineless weasel who doesn’t have the backbone to lead in this time uncertainty in America today.

He constantly says that he has a plan for Healthcare (a plan that will cost Americans jobs, and 10 trillion dollars), a plan for Iraq (a plan to reach out to the UN and ask permission before we defend ourselves. Most of the UN members were in bed with Sadam and these are the people he respects), a plan for the middle class and to revitalize the economy (Bush gave the largest tax break every to the middle class and the economy is experiencing its greatest growth ever. Bush inherited an economy headed into a recession and was dealt a major blow on 911, yet consumer spending has been up for 2 and a half years and the market is growing at a tremendous rate. John Kerry has yet to detail his great vision and just continues with his absurd lies).

I think the real difference is Kerry believes that people are not capable to run their own lives and he can run them better; just give him your money. Kerry believes that America should essentially form a "force-field" mentality and close ourselves to the rest of the world. No global economy, no compassionate leadership, no foresight. In his mind it is only America's job to take care of America.

Bush is someone who believes America should lead and by that you need the people to take responsibility for their own lives. America should have the right not only to defend itself but as a leader stand up for those who can't. America should participate in the Global economy not only as a beneficiary of foreign products and human inelegance but also as leader in the free exchange of products, ideas and labor. A global marketplace is precisely what our enemies are trying to discourage. They do not want the world to close and bright. They need it vast and dark to continue their mission of hate and despair.

There is a great quote that says: "For those who much is given, much is expected".

I don't think Mr. Kerry believes in this, I think President Bush lives by it. America use to be a country were people came to make something of themselves, for themselves and it has turned into a country where people expect things to be handed to them. Bush will give the tools for those who want to make a better life for themselves but it is ultimately up to them. Kerry will tell you what you need and how you will get it. It comes down to wanting to live life for yourself or have someone live it for you.

Booman, The Republican rhetoric is all about deflection. Whenever I get into a conversation with a Bush supporter, I always ask them why are they voting for him. The response I usually get is because he is a leader and he is decisive. I don't get that. That doesn't make them good decisions. Part of the democratic process is he has to come before the people and be judged on his record. He has failed in so many areas (jobs, the war, the environment) that he shouldn't possibly be re-elected.

My vote is for John Kerry. Bring in a new guy. Do the job or you're out in 4 years.

Jordan:
Who has been given more than W? Even those who approve of his performance as president would have tonadmit his C.V. is hardly marked with success. He has ridden his one asset—his last name—to death.
"Bush is someone who believes America should lead and by that you need the people to take responsibility for their own lives."
If W were held to this standard, would he have gotten into Yale? or Harvard Business School? Would he have been staked to opportunities in the oil business which, though his company went belly-up, gave him the money to buy in to the Texas Rangers, the deal where he both made his public debut and his money.
"Kerry believes that America should essentially form a "force-field" mentality and close ourselves to the rest of the world."
Really??? I thought W was the man with the force-field plan, spending trillions to turn the U.S. into a virtual Missile Command. W's mind is like one of those novelty maps with one locale taking up most of the land mass. Where those are typically for New York or Texas, W's devotes most of the world to Saddam and the rest to his ranch.
W sure spends a lot of time at the ranch. I'm just trying to do him a favor and clear up his schedule so he can stay there.

Posted by: PJ at October 29, 2004 11:11 AM

There are a few things I would like to respond to:
Why vote for Bush?
I believe in his domestic agenda. I beieve that education opens the doors for success in our country and his plan, (No Child Left Behind), is solid, though definitely in need of improvement, (as most huge fed programs are). If John Kerry has a better idea feel free to let me know.

The tax cuts did help the economy. Now don't confuse this with the one time rebates everyone received, that did not do anything for the economy. But tax cuts do work. I agree that cuts in spending are necessary to get the most out of the tax cuts and I would like to see him use his veto power as well as dramatically cut discrentionary spending in his second term.

The war on terror must be fought. Chances are it is not going to be planes next time. It may be a rogue country selling its chemical/biological weapons to a terror group. I beleive this is the reasoning behind the invasion of Iraq. Honestly I try to keep up to date with everything from every viewpoint in politics, (even before Bush's presidency), and I cannot believe that anyone from either side thought if it came to it and we had to go into Iraq that we would not find the WMD's. I hate the idea that anyone would have to give their life especially since to date we have not found anything but the fact is Hussein used WMD's on his own people in an attempt at genocide that has not been seen since Adolf Hitler. Why wouldn't he sell them to hurt his enemy?

Social Security: Bush recognizes that this is going to be a huge issue down the line, (2016-2026), depending on who you believe. And he is trying to forward his ideas to keep the program solvent. Privatizing a portion to of each account to receive a higher return, and thus decreasing the burden from the gov't is probably the only way to go. The alternative is cutting benefits or drastically raising taxes, or both to keep the program solvent.

That is why I am voting Bush.
I also want to adress the tax issue,
The tax cuts for the rich:
The way I see it each tax burden was lessened for every American. Each bracket was decreased and the amounts within each bracket were stretched out so everyone benefitted. The rich are portrayed to have benefitted more because no one is looking at the percentages of the marginal tax rate. If you go by percentages it is all relative up and down the tax scale. It is really a matter of being a proponent of supply side economics, and the idea that if there is more money in the economy that firms will invest in more technology and human capital thus making the economy stronger, if you are not a proponent, no tax cuts for anyone but the truly poor are acceptable and I respect that but disagree.
I am not saying I am right but that is how I see it. I repect any differing opinions.

Can anyone help me find a place in Miami? I need a Miami apartment rental fast. Does anyone know where to find a sublease in Miami or apartments for rent in Miami? So far this is the best place I found: www.subleaseauction.com . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
