Today is January 8, 2005. There are 577 days until the estimated impeachment and removal of George W. Bush (for how this was calculated, read after the jump.) This is the first in a daily series chronicling the high crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush administration.
Today's high crime: Illegal use of federal funds for covert propaganda. From the New York Times:
The Government Accountability Office, an investigative arm of Congress, said on Thursday that the Bush administration violated federal law by producing and distributing television news segments about the effects of drug use among young people.
The accountability office said the videos "constitute covert propaganda" because the government was not identified as the source of the materials, which were distributed by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. They were broadcast by nearly 300 television stations and reached 22 million households, the office said.
How the countdown is calculated: Bush's expected removal is based on the date that Richard Nixon was forced from office: Aug. 8, 1974, the 565th day of his second term. It is only an estimate -- Bush could in fact be removed from office earlier than Aug. 8, 2006.
Over six months ago Rush predicted the Democracts attempt to impeach Bush, if he won re-election. I believe it's all just part of the political wars.
The only drawback of that is, Cheney becomes president and then they have to start impeachment all over again.
