Reporter with Bush DWI scoop now drives a truck!

Yesterday, we linked to a great piece by highly respected investigative journalist Robert Parry about the odd things that tend to happen to reporters who go after the Bush family, from ousted-anchor Dan Rather to shot-twice-in-the-head-suicide Gary Webb.

Today, there's another example -- Ted Cohen, the reporter who first found out about W.'s mid-1970s drunk driving arrest in Kennebunkport. His editors at the Portland Press Herald wouldn't run the story, and after it came out anyway on the weekend before the 2000 election, he openly talked and wrote of how the story was spiked.

His editors demoted him, punished him for various "infractions," and Cohen eventually had to quit the paper (he recently settled a lawsuit that he'd brought against his bosses for violating his First Amendment rights).

Now, at age 53, Cohen is starting a brand new career -- driving an 18-wheeler. The Boston Globe reported:

''It's all about the open road, right?" Cohen queried a trucker colleague that night. ''The freedom of the open road?" The trucker nodded, bemused, it seemed, by Cohen, a bespectacled man in an oxford shirt and sweater, a pen clipped to the neckline.

It's definitely not about freedom of the press.

It seems Zell was right. The Democrats are on their way to becoming a minority party and Bush is driving the truck.
