Election 2004

Just kill us now

American publishers have figured out why people aren't reading: THE PRINT ISN'T BIG ENOUGH!!!!!

We agree with the Guardian, which notes:

The innovation will also come as a relief to those authors who may have mistakenly felt that people were not buying their books because of something they had written.

Rather than being concerned about such old-fashioned literary gimmicks as plot, character and the careful choice of appropriate language, they must now recognised that the key to successful writing is to change the font size setting on their computer and to invest in some heavyweight paper at the stationers.

Maybe the few people who read books are just older these days. I could read 6-point type last year, but alaz no more, with or without my glasses. Out library is stocking more and more large-print titles for senior citizens. Of course, it would be unusual is American book publishers actually recognized a trend while it was happening, but maybe this time they actually got it.

Follow-up:
This also explains my typos such as "alaz" and "out" for "our."
