Campaign Extra!: That Negroponte sure knows a lot about terrorism

I was saddened but not surprised by Bush's choice of Negroponte as head of the intel branches. Negropnte is but a third rate political hack who has never adequately confessed his role in Honduras during the Iran-Contra Affair, which was, in hindsight, the real beginning of the end of American Democracy. It is a good yardstick aginst which we must guage American domestic and foregin policy. Cocaine and murder befit Negroponte as well as they do Reagan and this small little man in the White House named George Bush. I am ashamed by these men, but the future is still ours to have, and it is high time we begain to take back our country, and the way to accomplish this is to send a very strong message to the White House that their tenure is about over, for good. There is a special place in Hell fro Reagan and Bush.

This has been featured on at least two blogs from Philly in the last couple days, both Atrios and allspinzone, where I write. Indeed, it is such "old hat" news, reported concerning Negroponte when he took the Iraq position, for instance, that all I needed to muster for my readers was a "we're so screwed" comment, and they knew right what I was talking about.

This is not to say that this Daily News BLOG is out of step. Since you have a broader readership the same sorts of rules do not apply, I suppose -- I can get away with more snarkiness and short-suts in prose that you cannot. Still, it is not news that Mr. Negroponte is likely responsible for dozens of death squad deaths in Latin America in the 80's. Indeed, he may be partly responsible for the death of nuns.

Yes, the death of nuns. Is there no outcry anywhaere?

We continue to see the parallels between Shrubya's and Hitler's regimes. The Bush cartel is nothing more or less than a gang of liars, thugs, and robber barons, presided over by a hapless twit. Instead of bemoaning our sad fate (how did we come to this?), we should be seeking ways to charge, indict, convict, and imprison the sorry lot of these crooks for their manifold crimes. The usual avenues for accomplishing this have been effectively neutralized by stooges in every branch of government as well as the "news" media. Any ideas?

I think the 'news' element is Negroponte's appointment yesterday. It is obvious in the post here that the Honduras story is old, the giveaway being:
"The Baltimore Sun nailed the story, and the Embassy's role under Negroponte, in this 1995 expose:"
There are 3,910 results from 'Negroponte posts in the last 24hours' at Google, so clearly this story still has legs.

News is news to anyone who hasn't heard it before. I was vaguely aware, for instance, that Negroponte was ambassador to Honduras during the death-squad era, but did not really know much more than that. This blog is doing what should be its duty by pointing out the seriousness of this bit of history in view of the genuinely new news of the intelligence post appointment.
