Your spring plans

Friday, we asked everyone to share their fitness plans for spring, and we gave away some free fitness books and gear as incentive. It was great to read comments from women all over the country, and one for as far away as China!Click on "Comments" to see the healthy goals from our girlfriends out there - and maybe add your own!

Are you sure you'll send them to everyone? Cuz I'm in China, so it might cost a bit more than you want to pay! *grin*

That being said, my fitness goal is to make a "power hour" every day. An hour of working out, seven days a week.

So, I do Wu Shu twice a week (Chinese martial arts), I am slowly working up to an hour of running three times a week (very slowly, right now it's only 25 minutes), and I do a Chinese workout DVD on the two other days of the week. Plus, because of my job here, I go up about 17 flights of stairs a day. *grin*

My goals are to touch my hands to the ground sometime soon (I can almost touch my feet after doing all my stretches!), to be able to run 10 km, and to do at least one kata in Wu Shu where I don't have to stop for ten seconds and think about the next move, and where I don't fall over.

Go me!

I recently discovered my local YMCA (a wonderful, positive atmosphere for fitness by the way!) and have committed in the past month to be there 5 times weekly and so far so good! I set up a simple cardio workout log to track my progress and add up my minutes and calories burned for the week. Sounds so simple, but let me tell you, its a motivator! My spring goal is to run the 5K Race for the Cure on Mother's day (I couldn't run around the block a month ago!). Thanks for asking!

My goal is to get into the habit of actually using my gym membership this year. My husband is also a member and we are starting out with three days a week. Once it gets warmer and stays lighter longer, we'll also start walking in our neighborhood after work.

Since starting a new job I had been to the gym less and have been eating worse. I live and work in center city Philadelphia. So, now that I am am adjusted to my schedule I have begun to do the following: I do 45 min 4 times a week of elliptical a night at my gym, and during the day I have joined "Shapes" a gym similar to curves. Now, on my lunch break, I lift and grab a salad. I have been trying to be good about my carb intake and have been limiting the amount of junk I eat. Hopefully this double workout combined with healthy eatinng will pay off!!!

Last year, I joined my local YMCA and began my current job. My job entails spending a lot of time sitting at my desk, so I think attending Y classes about 3-4 times per week helps keep my weight stable. My Y’s step aerobics and yoga classes are great! However, my goal is to workout 5 times per week consistently so I can make more gains in strength and flexibility. Hopefully, I’ll get there soon!

I PLAN TO BEGIN RUNNING 2.5 MILES AT LEAST 4 DAYS A WEEK ONCE IT GETS NICER OUT. I ALSO PLAN ON EATING ALOT BETTER BY INCORPORATING MORE FRUITS, VEGETABLES, PROTEIN INTO MY DIET. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN ATTEMPTING TO TONE MY BODY MORE MY DOING SOME WEIGHT TRAINING.

I'm going to make exercise a daily activity, even if it just means taking a walk every day. I bought myself a cheap pedometer, and I'm wearing it!

This spring I want to do more outdoor exercise. I love the warm weather and I think I'd be inspired to crank it up a notch if I was outside in nice weather. I've also become aware of how important stretching and flexibility is to fitness so I'm checking out Pilates classes in my area to see what's available.

Right now I do Pilates and strength training (separate days) during the week, I want to try to add at least one day of cardio during the week, and one on the weekend during the month of March. After I have developed a routine, I want to add another day(s) of cardio and strength training. By the summer I want to have incorporated physical activity into every day of the week. While doing this, I want to maintain a healthy diet.

I'm going to train to run in my first marathon it will be the walk for life to help raise money for cancer

I have already started getting in shape. I have lost 20 pounds so far, with 20 to go. My plan is to start running and to continue to eat a low calorie diet. I think that will help in my goal to get more fit.

Hired a personal trainer to work out with & teach me how to use all the machines in the gym. 2x a week for the next 12 weeks!

Posted by: cindy on February 27, 2004 12:48 PM

I have borrowed a friend's Pilate tapes but right now they are collecting dust on top of my vcr! I hope to start them March 1! Or I may have my 16 1/2 year old twin boys show me how to use their weight machines in the basement! Either way I want to get in shape because I think we are going to Cancun June1 and I want to look good in my bathing suit :)

The only reason I used to ever work out and eat right was to lose weight. I was always self conscious about how I looked. I finally realized that my health is more important than losing the 5lbs. to fit into a pair of jeans. I am now working out consistenly 4-5 days a week and weight training 2-3 days a week. My goal is to get healthy this summer and if I happen to lose a few pounds so be it.

I'm going to walk more. I'm not going to take the elevator at work and I am going to stop parking right next to the door(a lit bit longer walk in the parking lot will be good for me!). I hope to keep walking around the block and staying in shape that way!
