Ask the Trainer: Best gym?

Hi, I moved to Philly from California about 9 months ago. I am considering joining an aerobics class, but I am not sure how to find one that will meet my needs. I live in Center City, Rittenhouse area. I walk everywhere, but am not oppose to taking public transportations. I have a limited budget, but for the right program I am willing to tighten my budget to fit this in. My main goal is to get some exercise and make some new friends. Do you have any suggestions?

There are many gyms in center city. I recommend that you do a tour and decide on which facility would be best for you. The main facilities are:

  • Sporting Club @ the Bellevue (most expensive - good aerobic program), Broad & Walnut
  • The 12th Street Gym (best value and outstanding aerobic classes), 204 S. 12th Street (between Walnut & Locust)
  • Philadelphia Sports Club (completive pricing) 16th & Market
  • Sweat (competitive pricing) 23rd and Walnut
  • Vigor Works (newest center city facility - may offer free weekly pass) 13th & Walnut
