THERESA:
What are your favorite outdoor activities in fall? Yesterday I took a long run in the Wissahickon. It was the perfect autumn day for a run. Kind of cold. But not too muddy, and no rain. There were lots of people out enjoying the trail on bikes, horses or on foot. I love running in cool weather. The cool air gives me an extra boost to run faster and farther, and the park looks so great this time of year.
On Saturday we went hiking a little in the Curtis Arboretum near Jenkintown. I'd never been there before. It's very quiet and beautiful. I love discovering these great outdoor spaces hidden in city setttings.
How are you spending these autumn days, Girlfriends?
APRIL: On weekends when I am able to get a free Saturday morning, I power walk to the grocery store about a mile and a half then head back with a couple of bags filled with bagels and juice. It's a good way to start the morning - and the bags are good weights.
YVONNE W: I like to jump rope on my deck.
DIANE: This is my favorite time of year for long walks. I live in the beautiful countryside of Chester County. My husband and I head out on a Sunday morning and walk for 7-8 miles. It is so invigorating to walk briskly and look at the changing colors of the trees. I also love to hike. There are some incredible trails out where I live. Kelly's Run is one of my favorites with waterfalls, fantastic foliage and some steep trails. A great workout for the body and spirit!
I like the Forbidden Drive, Kelly, and West River Drive. I don't like cold weather but it does drive me to move faster.
The Curtis Arboretum sounds great. I'll have to check that out too.
Usually, when it's breezy out like this, I head for the treadmill. But when I was vacationing last week, I went on a couple of long bike rides through the woods and really enjoyed it. Yeah, it was cold where I was, but it also was invigorating. So, I'm thinking that this year, for the first time, I'm going to try to keep moving even when it's gray and gloomy out and the wind is howling. Hopefully, I can keep this going until at least the first snowfall.
