Keeping it Real with Linda GilvearBy Daily News staff writer Regina Medina
Q: Welcome to Keeping It Real. Tell us about your background.
A: I've always worked out, and I really became serious about it when my twins were born. I started working out at the Riverside Aquatic Fitness Center three years ago, and I became really interested in a class called Body Pump. After taking it for two years, I became certified in Body Pump and taught the class. I became a certified personal trainer a year and a half ago, and I train here in Riverside. I just wanted other people to weight train like I had done. I have so much energy. I sleep better. [And] I'm not as easily stressed out, not to mention the physical benefits of it.
Q: What is your general impression of exercise/workout gadgets?
A: I think they're wonderful. They are a wonderful way to watch weight loss and cardio training. I think some of them are amazing. I think that something new that will change your workout routine is wonderful.
Q: What are the advantages of using items such as a heart rate monitor during a workout?
A: It helps you figure out which exercises get your heart rate up.
Q: Can it be distracting as well?
A: No, not at all. It's like wearing a watch, plus you have the belt around your chest.
Q: What do you think about personal TVs or CD players being placed in close proximity to the treadmill?
A: Absolutely.
Q: What is your exercise regimen?
A: Three to four days of weightlifting. Three days of cardio.
