Books for Children

This site promotes love of books by kids and has great articles on children's literacy and the most comprehensive book recommendations I have ever seen for kids, picked out with loving care. It also encourages a hobby I have done in secret for years, and now I am outing myself. I read children's books, and no not just to my siblings and Godchildren, I read them for me. And apparently I am not the only one!

It started since I wanted to write a children's book, which I still want to do one day, so I picked up a bunch to scope out the competition. I was hooked. Not only does it help you relate to children better, many express important values, lessons, and sentiments in a very accesible way, plus they are fun and great to get the imagination juices flowing! I will let you in on some of my favorites, but one of them supplied the poem A Call to Service. I found it in a great book called "We can make a Differece".

Anyway, back to the site. I was going to recommend books for kids, and I still will since I have some ones I love, but then I found out about this site and I think it is so fabulous and better than what I could come up with, I thought, why re-invent the wheel? Thank goodness for JetBlue and close quarters. On one of my many cross country trips to LA I was seated next to a fabulous 2 yr. old who entertained me the whole way. Though he was far more interested in just sitting on my lap to use me for my window I thought there was a real dialogue going on. His parents noticed that I had a stack of children's books with me that I was reading and notating, big bonus for them since it kept people entertained. But the big bonus for me was when they told me about their friends's site

I told them about what I was trying to do for Citizen Hunter and they said this site has done it for you, just add things if you think there is anything missing. They were right. Oh, and also they have me addicted to turkey jerky from whole foods now, since that's what their boys were eating.
