If you have not already donated your old cell phone to help battered women in need, I have another idea for you. Donate your phone to be recycled and help an environmental cause - plus get paid for it!
OK, I cannot make this easier for you guys, so get to it. You know you have phones collecting dust in drawers and you think someday you will use it again. You won't. If you are like me you are holding onto an old phone because it contains all your numbers and you can't transfer them to the new one so you use it as a phone book. (Oh, that's just me? How embarrassing.) Anyway, if I can break my finger typing in all the numbers anew you can do it too! Gather up your phones and send them today. Your gift certificate will be in the mail.
That might just be you. Another good cause to do something about. I've got a cruddy cell phone and about to switch to a better one, now I know what I can do with it. Thanks.

Posted by: Steve at July 23, 2006 08:13 PMI knew I shouldnt have given my old cell phone to the women against abuse organization, now I misse out on a gift certificate. How about if I come out to california, you take me to dinner instead?
Posted by: steve at July 23, 2006 08:20 PMI have two phones I've been meaning to send somewhere in a bag in my office right now. I hope they aren't too ancient to be useable, but I'll gladly send them. I've heard of this need before. Glad to supply.

Just as a little aside-
if they environmental concerns about throwing out a cellphone bother you now multiply those concerns by THOUSANDS when the batteries in your hybrid meet their end.
This is a great cause though and needs more recognition!
FYI: If you're like me and you don't change phones until the one you have has either been damaged, won't work or the company you were with gets gobbled up and the new company maliciously hikes your phone bill forcing you to switch from the old company's plan to theirs (which means a new phone)(yes, I am talking about when Cingular bought AT&T Wireless - some law firm really ought to investigate that deal), then this deal probably won't mean a gift certificate for you. They say on their site that they can't usually hook you up if your phone is over two years old. One of mine was about 6 or 7 years old!
But don't despair! I also learned from the site that if you have a worthless phone (mine were really worthless because they were both old AT&T phones, and you can't buy a plan on that system anymore) you can still drop it off for recycling and non-toxic disposal at any Staples Office Supply Store.
I was very glad to hear this. There's a Staples just a few blocks down from my office and their "phone/PDA" recycling center was right up front as you walked in the door.
So it's done!
