Newspapers in Education NIE is an acronym for Newspaper In Education, which is a cooperative effort of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News and Philly Online to bring the newspaper into local schools. The Newspaper in Education (NIE) program uses newspapers to teach a variety of subjects- history, language arts, science, math, economics, journalism, to name a few; at all grade levels. To make NIE happen, key people work together from the schools and the newspaper. At schools, principals, teachers and curriculum supervisors participate in the NIE program. At the newspaper, managers, marketers, delivery persons, sponsors and NIE representatives are involved. NIE succeeds because of the close and positive relationship between the schools and the newspaper. |
